CARLY
CrossFit Level 2 trainer (CF-L2), L1 Boxing Instructor, Cert IV Personal
Training, Cert III Fitness
Prior to CrossFit Border, Carly worked as a Learning and Development Advisor in an organisation supporting people with physical and intellectual disabilities. As a result, she has first-hand experience in driving the right learning, development and capability interventions to increase success. She also has qualifications and experience as a Personal Trainer and has drawn on this experience in previous roles to help rehabilitate people with serious physical disabilities. Fitness has shaped the best part of Carly’s life. She has competed nationally for discus and has even held a few Australian records. She has also represented NSW in the Women’s Premier League for soccer. Competing at this level has given Carly a huge appreciation and understanding for the commitment and effort it takes to train at your highest capacity…and more importantly, the gratification and self-love it fuels.

Iago’s passion for sport and fitness stems from a very young age. Growing up, this took the form of soccer for his hometown team in Brazil as well as 6 years competing competitively for karate. For 3 consecutive years, Iago was lucky enough to be on the Brazilian National Team. This yielded some impressive results including National Champion and 3rdplace in South America. After hanging up his belt, Iago spent 5 years studying a Bachelor of Science before following his heart back to his true passion of health and fitness. Iago was first introduced to CrossFit in 2014 and it was love at first sight. It wasn’t long before he was training 6 days a week and developed a keen interest in learning more about the CrossFit methodology. After completing his CFL1 course (and moving to Australia), he began coaching in 2018 and has since also completed his CrossFit weightlifting course. Now a resident coach at CrossFit Border, Iago is devoutly dedicated to helping his clients achieve their health and fitness goals. Having learned from some of the most internationally-renowned weightlifters, Iago also runs his own specialised weightlifting program for members’ enthusiastic about fine-turning their lifting techniques on Monday nights. He has won the hearts of members at CrossFit Border and will always match his client’s efforts to achieving their goals.

SOMMER
CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1), Masters of Clincial Exercise Physiology, Bachelor of Exercise Science, Level 1 Sports Trainer
Sommer started at CrossFit Border at the young age of 16 and it has since become like a second home. She has watched the gym evolve and change through many seasons, but one thing that has remained constant is her love for the sport of fitness. Sommer is passionate about exercise – how amazing it is for the human body and psyche as well as its importance in creating an overall healthy lifestyle. Sommer loves helping people reach their goals and full potential, so much so, that she is studying a Masters of Clinical Exercise Physiology. Not only does Sommer love CrossFit for its functional movements, supportive community and its ability to allow you to be a better version of yourself every day, but it’s also allowed her to improve her performance in other sports. The skills she has picked up in CrossFit have translated to her involvement with Rugby 7’s, touch football and rugby league and she is a true testament to the fact that CrossFit can help you perform at your peak in any sport.
