THE MAY MEMBER OF THE MONTH IS JOEL!
Don’t hold back, come in to CrossFit and smile, laugh, sweat and become part of the community this will lead to you achieving goals you previously thought were wildly out of reach. Joel is one of our quietest members who just gets his head down and does the work. Joel earned the Monthly Machine title for his attitude to his training. Joel is currently studying Full Time at university, and training most days. Quite often Joel stays back to work on skills he enjoys or needs to work on. We asked Joel a few questions to get to know him a bit more.
What is your favourite CrossFit workout?
I love Cindy, just the quick change between movements and low reps means that you can constantly keep pumping them out. The hero wod Murph also holds a special place in my heart as it absolutely destroyed me and pushed me to my limits.
What do you love about CrossFit?
I love CrossFit because whenever I arrive I’m always greeted with a smile and I can guarantee having a laugh throughout the session. You get to work out with some awesome people in such a friendly atmosphere whilst still getting insane results. I never imagined I’d be as strong as I am when I started CrossFit but consistent support has pushed me further and helped me achieve goals that I wouldn’t have even set working out alone.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I’m a bit of a movie fan, I don’t watch all the latest films but I’d say I frequent the cinemas. I also read books quite a bit, I could literally talk to people about Game of Thrones (book or show) for an entire day. Video games are also my guilty pleasure but it allows me to stay in touch with friends made in High School.
What’s your favourite music to train to?
I don’t think of any particular artist when I think preferred workout music, probably something that just makes everyone wanna dance. It always brings a smile to my face when I see people dancing around the box.
What’s your favourite food?
I’m a huge fan of pizza, especially if it’s homemade. Just being able to create your pizza itself makes it that much better. I also love a nice big burger, it is generally my go to on restaurant menus but making a towering burger at home is pretty great as well.
What/Who inspires you?
The looming zombie apocalypse, when they come I will be ready. In all serious though I don’t do half-assed well. If I leave CrossFit and feel as if I could have pushed myself further it makes me unhappy. If I walk out of an exam at Uni thinking I could have done better it makes me unhappy. I think I’m truly at my happiest when I let something consume me and I know that I couldn’t have done better if I tried.
In one sentence, what advice do you give to beginners?
Don’t hold back, come in to CrossFit and smile, laugh, sweat and become part of the community this will lead to you achieving goals you previously thought were wildly out of reach.
